Die Verwendung von Kartenmaterial beispielsweise von google auf Internetseiten ist meistens begleitet von Lizenzproblemen oder aus Datenschutzgründen nicht erwünscht. Dieses Material unterliegt dem Copyright. Mit Openstreetmap existiert eine - zumindest für Großstädte - brauchbare Alternative, die unter einer Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 2.0 Lizenz steht. Openstreetmap lebt zudem von der Mitarbeit seiner Benutzer, die die Möglichkeit haben, die Karten zu editieren. Alles, was man dazu braucht, ist ein GPS Tracker und ein Grafikprogramm.
